Listings
We need to make sure that your business can be found online via listings. We are only going to worry about Google right now since it receives the majority of search engine inquiries. We are going to do this by using the “Google My Business” tool. You’re going to visit this page, select the “Manage” button, search your business to make the claim, and update your Google listing if needed.
Reviews
Next, we are going to focus on your reputation or lack of reputation. We are going to use Facebook, Google, and Yelp since these are the most common places customers use to leave reviews.
If you don’t have a Facebook page, this is the perfect time to create one so you can start building your presence and reputation there.
If you have nothing but good reviews, great! Go through and thank all those who took the time to boost your reputation online. Maybe even offer them a discount the next time they come in to thank them for their great review and encourage them to come back in and purchase more products.
If you have some reviews that aren’t so kind, take the time to apologize and take responsibility. This doubles down as both great publicity and effective customer service. Reach out to them and offer a solution, whatever it may be. Invite them to come back to have a different experience. If you can tell that it will be a confrontational encounter, it is best to ask them to call you or email you to continue the conversation in private.
If you have a low rating on any of these review sites, make some effort to create incentives for your customers to leave reviews. Though you shouldn’t ask them to leave you a 5-star review, you can ask them to leave you a review in exchange for a discount or deal on their next visit.
These are just some critical spots that you can start fixing, improving, or monitoring starting today with little to no experience.
